Who has ever made the comment “I am just not motivated?” or “I will start Monday when I am motivated?” #motivationmonday
I get a lot of comments about how “motivated” I am. So I thought, do you know what? I am going to break it down for other people so they can see what goes on in this crazy little mind of mine to help me get up early daily and get it done. EVERY. SINGLE.DAY.
Warning… I am about to debunk motivational myths for you, it’s just my humble opinion of course, so it may not work for everyone but here it is...
Hack #1 - stop relying on the concept of motivation.
People often say “I wish I had your motivation to do X” well the secret is - I wish I had this mystical “motivation” people think I have. But I don’t. What I have is discipline, consistency and a mild form of OCD where I just freaking love routine. If you want to get things done stop waiting for a tidal wave of motivation and just actually do it. Otherwise you’ll never get started and you’ll never hit those goals. I’m not saying motivation doesn’t exist, I’m just saying don’t rely on it to get you started or to keep you consistent otherwise it’s too easy to find ourselves using “lack of motivation” as an excuse rather than just admitting the truth of “I can’t be f*cked”.
Hack #2- decide on what and how.
Once you’ve decided to just do it and stop waiting for the motivation to kick in... decide on what it is you really want and how you’re going to do it.
You have to associate pleasure to your goal, know that when you reach it how absolutely amazing you’ll feel so when things get hard (I’m talking about those 4am alarms/ long hours/ hard conversations), you can keep focused on the intention and keep on chugging along. Set an action plan that is both achievable and maintainable. Can you really drop 15kilos in a week? Let’s be realistic Karen!
Hack #3 - consistency is Queen.
So now you know it’s about more than being a #motivationinspo, you’ve set your goal and made your plan. It’s time to start and repeat, repeat and repeat until it all becomes a habit. Conditioning our minds and bodies to these habits whether big or small, will help us maintain and get a little closer to ticking off those goals and that to do list. Being a Virgo I love nothing more than ticking off an item on my to-do list, sweet satisfaction at its finest. Once we get momentum it’s gung ho but as soon as you stop... you stop. So keep going and be a consistent Kweeeeen.
Hack #4- get accountable.
I hate anything to do with numbers or accounting but accountability? That’s my vibe. Whether it’s staying accountable to others or yourself, this step is critical. I’m not saying shout out your goals to the world or to anyone really, it’s just what works for you. You could simply write it down & put it somewhere you look everyday or tell someone close to you out loud to enforce it. Or you could be like me - the thought of putting my blog out there to real humans terrified me and still does but by putting my voice somewhat public I know I will be more likely and inspired to create because I’m being held accountable by those that enjoy reading my pieces (thanks mum and dad)!
Okay next and last point so I don’t say accountability/accountable one more time...
Hack #5 - review and improve.
Just like any performance appraisal you need to consistently check in and see where you’re at with your goals and to
do list. If something isn’t working on your journey, do not stop, just reroute and keep going.
Take time to reflect on your progress and give yourself praise for even starting. If you can successfully tick off that goal or item on your list (how good does it feel btw?!) then find a new goal and repeat and repeat and repeat.
That’s all I’ve got for now but P.S....if you struggle with discipline, accountability and habits, I’ve got you covered. I’m working on a little something something to make it that much easier for you and for me... stay tuned.
Love
